KOTA KINABALU: Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Bhd (MIDF) has granted about RM6bil in loans to the manufacturing sector nationwide for the past five decades.

Head of Sabah MIDF Jackson Phan Kah Boon said of this, about 10% , or RM600mil, of the loans were given to Sabahans.

Phan said he was happy that Sabahans also benefited from MIDF's financing facilities.

He said MIDF was establised in 1960 and along the way it concentrated on the manufacturing sector and recently it also focused on services segment.

“In terms of services sector, we widen our coverage to the industrial sector or professionals such as medical field, printing companies as well as accounting and service advisories,” he told reporters during the International Trade and Industry Ministry and media get-together session yesterday.

He said the manufacturing sector produced mostly semi-finished and finished products.

As for Sabah, Jackson said the focus was on finished timber products and plastic products. “We are not just concentrating on manufacturers within the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park but also in other townships in Sabah,” he said.

Among the types of loans available from MIDF are for purchase of industrial land and factory building, commercial shop-lots, machinery, industrial equipment, information technology equipment, commercial vehicles and working capital financing. Bernama
