Bank Rakyat profit up 8%

KUALA LUMPUR: Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia Bhd (Bank Rakyat) posted profit before tax and zakat for the nine-month period ended Sept 30 of RM1.62bil, up 8.1% over the RM1.5bil achieved for the same period last year.

Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaacob said the bank also recorded net profit of RM1.33bil compared to RM1.2bil in the same period a year ago, an increase of 10.5%.

“Bank Rakyat posted positive financial performance with higher pre-tax profit, net profit and gross income of RM30.9bil as at Sept 31.

“With this encouraging performance, and recognition such as winning the Most Profitable Islamic Bank and Best Islamic Retail Bank awards, we hope Bank Rakyat will continue to be the biggest Islamic bank in Malaysia and the 12th best in the world,” he said. — Bernama
