In a research note, MIDF said Malaysia's rubber glove export jumped 31.8
per cent year-on-year (y-o-y) in January 2013 while export value grew
16.8 per cent y-o-y to RM877 million.
"Should the H7N9 influenza virus develop into a pandemic, customers
would be stocking up on rubber gloves for better hygienic purpose.
"Even without any abnormal consumption, we expect the export value
growth to be maintained at between eight per cent and 10 per cent and
global demand growth to be stable and maintained at its historical
average level of eight per cent," it said.
However, the World Health Organisation has noted that there is no
evidence so far of human-to-human transmission, therefore, the
likelihood or risk of pandemic is low.
