He said among the privileges were having the smooth and fast immigration
process at the airport and having a very easy and efficient haj-related
transactions.
The privileges were granted in line with the good relationship that
existed between the Pilgrims Fund Board (Tabung Haji) and the Saudi
Arabian Haj Ministry, besides the fact that the Malaysian pilgrims were
the most disciplined during their haj and umrah pilgrimage, he said.
"So, I would like to advise our pilgrims not to spoil these privileges
by committing what was deemed as offences to the extent of causing
difficulties to the future pilgrims from Malaysia," he told a press
conference here Friday.
He was responding to the tighter rules imposed by the Saudi Arabian
government to ensure smooth running of the haj, especially around Nabawi
Mosque in Madinah and the Grand Mosque in Mecca.
Syed Omar said the good relationship between Malaysia and Saudi Arabia
was one of the factors that enabled the Malaysian pilgrims to enjoy the
privileges and several meetings held between Prime Minister Datuk Seri
Najib Tun Razak and Raja Abdullah Abdulaziz Al-Saud were the testimony
of the good relationship between the two countries.
Meanwhile, he said the ongoing expansion project around the Grand
Mosque was part of the Mecca development plan. The project would surely
provide more comfort to the pilgrims, especially in the future, he
added.
