MDeC Chief Executive Officer Datuk Badlisham Ghazali said the target is
attainable with the collaboration of Export-Import Bank of Malaysia Bhd
(EXIM Bank).
"Last year, over 200 Malaysian companies exported their products,
especially to the Southeast Asia market," he told reporters after the
signing of a memorandum of collaborative arrangement (MOCA) among EXIM
Bank, MDeC and the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) here
today.
The signing, witnessed by Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan,
will enable CIDB and MDeC to share their knowledge and expertise with
EXIM Bank, which will facilitate Malaysian construction and ICT players'
cross-border ventures.
EXIM Bank Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer Datuk Adissadikin
Ali said the collaboration will offer Malaysian businesses looking to
venture overseas access to financing and technical advisory services
related to the construction and ICT industries.
"We expect 30 per cent of the RM5 billion total loan disbursement to go to the construction industry.
"ICT at the moment may not be as significant as construction, but we
have seen improved applications from this sector," he said, adding that
on average, less than 1.5 per cent of the total loan is disbursed to
ICT firms.
Last year the bank's total loan disbursement was RM3.1 billion, up from RM1.2 billion in 2011.
Meanwhile, CIDB Chief Executive Officer Datuk Seri Dr Judin Abdul Karim
said with the collaboration, EXIM Bank is opening the doors to capable
contractors to explore international opportunities.
