BSN Transformation Programme Bears Fruit

PONTIAN, July 28 (Bernama) -- Bank Simpanan Nasional's transformation, which focuses on giving its over 4,000 banking agents nationwide more responsibilities in offering of the services, has bear fruit.

Chairman Tan Sri Abu Bakar Abdullah said the move has put the bank to be on par with that of other banking institutions in the country.

Abu Bakar said with the network of agents, the bank has no need to open new branches nationwide.

"We have plans to focus on offering services via the agents to ensure that they are closer to the rakyat," he said.

He said this at a media briefing after the opening of the bank's 399th bank in Benut, near here, by Deputy Finance Minister, Datuk Ahmad Maslan, Saturday.

The branch is BSN's 82th Islamic banking unit.

Earlier, Abu Bakar said the bank has eight million customers with total retail savings of RM12.2 billion.

"Last year, the bank increased total savings by 13.3 per cent, or RM22.2 billion, and total retail savings by 10.3 per cent, or RM1.08 billion," e said.

He said the new branch will serve about 80 per cent of the residents in the district by offering services like savings, automated teller machines, deposit machines, credit card and loans.

The bank has 45 branches in Johor.
