“I will share about the challenges and how far the company has achieved her mission of physical and social transformation of Malaysia,” managing director Dr Nehemiah Lee Chee Hai (pic) tells StarBizweek.
Lee, who believes that corruption (in all of its forms) should be stopped, says the company will reveal how it “seeks physical transformation our nation through participation in the infrastructural development.”
“Social transformation from a culture of corruption to a culture of integrity is a far greater challenge. We seek to conduct business with integrity in the construction industry where pressure to give in to corrupt practices is tremendous.
“We refuse to pay bribes in any way since day one when the company was incorporated. Yet we have been profitable all these 19 years with the exception of the first year of operation. We hope to convey a message that integrity in business is an asset and not a liability,” says Lee.
Lee will be a guest speaker at the SOBA workshop in Kuala Lumpur, speaking on the topic of “Making A Difference Through Transformational Entrepreneurship”. The full-day event will also feature speakers from the Media Specialists Association.
In “Building Inspiration From Within”, workshop participants will hear about how leading companies get the best out of their people and resources, while the “SOBA Success Story” session offers insights into the principles and practices that have helped up-and-coming companies do well at the previous.
NRS won the SOBA silver award for Entrepreneur of Year in 2010 and bagged the SOBA platinum award for Entrepreneur of the Year in 2011. Lee says winning the awards have helped to boost the company's brand image.
“The awards have given us the much valuable media exposure and recognition as a company that can be trusted to deliver goods and services with quality and integrity. It also help us to convey the message that integrity pays.”
This year's SOBA promises to see some significant enhancements. For one thing, the awards are divided into two broad categories - the top-of-the-class awards and outstanding achievement awards. There are eight sub-categories for the former and three for the latter.
Now in its third year, the awards will reward winners with almost RM1mil worth of advertising space and airtime.
Exim Bank is the presenter of the awards, supported by Bursa Malaysia. The Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur is the official hotel partner. Red Tomato is the official Chinese newspaper, while the official radio stations are 988FM and RedFM. The awards auditor is BDO.
